Vintage Wood’s Ware Fish Plates (Pair)

R180.00

This pair of Wood’s Ware fish plates are perhaps two of the most unusual plates from my collection. I originally bought them as display plates for my kitchen (it was a super modern kitchen, with the most wonderful collection of vintage plates hanging on the wall) – in fact they may even have been a gift from my brother for my first home (sorry Mache!) – but when I moved houses I decided to start using them, and as a result there are one or two scratches from knives cutting against the glaze. Personally I think they should be returned to display pieces, or perhaps be used as serving plates (that way they  won’t really be cut on). From what I’ve read they date to the 1930s, and while terribly kitsch, they’re also really quite beautiful and deserve to be treated with a modicum of reverence!

Note: I’m away for a week or two, and didn’t get a chance to take measurements before I left, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly how big or small these plates are. My apologies!
