Vintage Wooden Dairy Crate

If you live in Jozi then today’s vintage wooden crate might hold special appeal for you, especially if you happen to live in the (hipster!) suburb of Linden. I knew that back in the day the area was filled with peach and cherry orchards – Justin’s boss live’s in Linden and I think she may even have the remnants of one these orchards in her backyard in the form of some old fruit trees – but I had never heard of the Gieskens Dairy Farm until I happened upon today’s lovely old wooden crate. It turns out that in addition to orchards, Linden was also home to large dairy farm that was in operation from the 1920s until 1968, when they sold to a larger dairy group. Pretty amazing to think of the area as farmland when you consider how it looks today! And how great that we’ve managed to find a bit of that history in the form of such a lovely old crate! It’s obviously quite worn, having come from a working farm and being of some age, but it’s still a completely functional piece and would make a great blanket box for the lounge. You could also use it to store firewood, toilet rolls, bathroom towels – really whatever takes your fancy!

P.S. This is relatively large crate – please pay attention to the dimensions below

Dimensions: 44cm long x 35.5cm wide x 30.5cm tall
