Since moving to Joburg I’ve developed a new appreciation for coat racks, given that here we actually need to wear proper coats in winter and it makes sense to have somewhere to hang them. But I also dump all manner of things on the hooks we have hanging by our front door – from scarves to handbags, from dog leashes to brollies – it turns out that coat racks are super handy! And while today’s wooden rack, with its wonderful elongated brass hooks, is more vintage than the retro look we normally go for, there’s a definite beauty to it. I love the old wood, and how you can see where the knots have been filled in, and those solid brass hooks are super elegant. It may be a bit rustic in style, but it’s also quite refined, and I think that this coat rack would fit in anywhere from a clean, contemporary space to a cosy cottage!
