Seemingly the compass-making industry originated in Switzerland, with a mechanic named Esser being the forefather of the industry. Jacob Kern, the founder of Kern & Co. Ltd, which started production of high-end precision drawing instruments in 1818, was one of Esser’s specialists. Sadly Kern closed their doors in 1991, after more than 170 years in business, but their drawing tools are still very sought after, and you can see why when you look at the incredible quality of today’s set. In addition to the high standard, the condition of the instruments is also incredible – in fact they look like they’ve barely been used!
A wonderful gift for any draftsman or architecture students or professionals.
