Vintage Porcelain Tray

R230.00

I’ve only ever come across a handful of these German-made porcelain trays, so not only are they quite beautiful, but they’re also fairly rare! Today’s version, which is decorated with what I assume to be cherries, is in decent enough nick, considering that a lot of sites date these trays to the early 1900s! I’m not convinced that our tray is quite as early as that though – there’s a stamp that reads “30 1 50” and I wonder if that isn’t actually a date stamp?

P.S. The tray was made by the firm, Max Dannhorn, which was established in 1872. In addition to their metal framed porcelain trays, they were also active in the toy market producing magic lanterns and optical toys. It’s thought that the porcelain for their trays was made by Villeroy & Boch, another very respected name!

Dimensions: 30cm in diameter
