This vintage silver and enamel necklace is definitely one of the more refined pieces of jewellery we’ve had for sale on Mint to date. It was designed by Willy Winnaess for Oslo based firm, David Andersen, in the 1950s, and not surprisngly is fairly sought after! A plain white version of this necklace is currently for sale on eBay for €150 (R2500), but the coloured enamel pieces tend to go for quite a bit more – I can’t find this exact necklace for sale online, but a green enamelled lily pad bracelet by David Andersen is selling for a whopping €320 (R5400), so that gives you some idea of the value of this necklace.
Note: At first I thought someone had shortened the chain on the necklace as it’s quite tight (definitely a choker-style), and there seems to be a replacement brass link at the the end of the necklace, but looking at photos of the same necklace for sale it may have originally been designed to be short. Personally though, I ‘d probably try and add some additional links….
Dimensions: Length of necklace (from one end to the other) 35cm; Each leaf measures 2.5cm long x 1.3cm wide
