I love these vintage mixing bowls so tend to buy them whenever I can, even if they’re not in Mint condition – these bowls have been in production for around 100 years now, so it’s not surprising that some of them are a bit worse for wear! This Mason Cash & Co version has a hairline crack along its rim, and some scuff marks on the inside of the bowl caused by years of spoons scratching the glaze when batter’s mixed, but we’ve tested the bowl and it doesn’t leak, so it’s mostly an issue of aesthetics – although obviously you’ll need to look after the bowl to ensure its condition doesn’t worsen. I quite like the idea of being the custodian of precious vintage objects, keeping them alive for another generation – so different to our throw-away generation, where everything’s disposable and nothing’s made to last.
NB: Despite its wear, for the most part this bowl looks very clean.
