I’m not an expert in antiques by any means, so am grateful for any help I can get, especially when it’s so neatly presented to me like in the case of today’s laboratory tube. Unfortunately we had to remove the label to clean the glass, but before we did I took a quick snap of the paper label which the previous owner had kindly taken the time to write – it reads “Genuine old specimen bottle +/- 1908”. I did wonder how they knew the date so precisely, but a quick google search turned up a similar looking antique specimen jar, so presumably the chap (or lass!) knew what they were talking about. Also, it’s difficult to see in the photos, but the base of the tube also has a hand engraving, which would also suggest that the glass has some real age to it.

The German-made conical shaped beaker is obviously a bit newer than the tube, but still, it must be at least fifty or so years old. It has a lovely shape to it, and it could easily be repurposed in the kitchen – it holds exactly 250 milliliters, which as I understand it is a pretty handy measurement for baking!

P.S. If you’re looking for ideas as to what to do with the specimen jar, I use a similar glass tube for keeping my various crochet hooks in, and it works a treat!

Note: Unfortunately because we’re away at the moment we aren’t able to provide dimensions for this item. Also please note that there will be a delay in couriering this item due to the current government restrictions
