These vintage Italian wine carafes are perfect for those connoisseurs who want their wine chilled, but don’t want the flavour of their wine diluted by melted ice. The idea is that you stash some small blocks of ice into the recess, allowing your wine to cool without effecting the taste. I haven’t tried it out so can’t attest to how well it works, but these were loads of these made back in the ’60s, so presumably they must have bene fairly effective. Functionality aside, the design makes for a great looking pair of carafes! I’d be more than happy to have these on my table – and obviously they would work just as well for chilling water as they would wine, so could even be used for the more sobre dinner parties!
P.S. These carafes can sell for a pretty penny – as much as $100 each!
