I don’t think that there are many people who use hankies these days (although supposedly they’re way kinder to your schnozz!), but I still couldn’t resist buying these (thankfully unused) handkerchiefs. The colours are so lovely, and the cotton so fine, I thought that perhaps they could be re-purposed as napkins – which is what I think the Swiss lace set must be? I assume that no one would want to blow their nose on anything as sheer as those delicate embroidered squares. Also the fact that there are six of them makes me think they’re likely to be napkins. The English Pyramid and South African Grafton hankies are sets of 12 and 11 respectively – I assume that one of the Grafton handkerchiefs got lost along the way, but still that’s a lot of really lovely cotton for your dollar!
P.S. You can still buy Pyramid handkerchiefs that look pretty much identical to the ones we’re selling today! A set of three Pyramid hankies will set you back around R200. Also please note that we haven’t washed the hankies or the napkins as we wanted to retain their stickers. There are one or two age spots on the hankies that will hopefully come clean in the wash….
Dimensions: Grafton hankies – 29cm x 28cm; Pyramid hankies – 30cm x 30cm; Swiss napkins – 25cm x 25cm
