When we see this style of glass we instinctively want to refer to it as ‘Murano‘, but in fact there were many different countries that made glass in the style of Murano, not just Italy. In researching this bowl (which I’m really none the wise about, by the way!) I came across a glass company that originally went by the name Murano Glass (later changing their name to Chalet), who were actually based in Montreal, Canada! I can’t say for certain at all, but the style of today’s bowl reminds me a lot of the glass produced by Chalet, who were known for their unusual shapes and long pointy ends. The bowl is in pretty good nick for its years – there’s a small chip on the base of the bowl, but the rest of the glass is perfect, and given that the damage is on the underside it’s really not very noticeable at all.
A wonderful piece of Murano-style glass that would look absolutely incredible with some light shining behind it sitting in a display case.
