Vintage Glass Piggy Banks (Each)

Prior to finding today’s fabulous glass piggy banks I don’t think I’d ever come across the name Wheaton before? And it seems that I really should have as they were a major manufacturer of glass in America. Founded in 1888 by Theodore C. Wheaton, a pharmacist by profession, the T.C. Wheaton Glass Factory initially specialised in glassware for the medical industry, later branching out into decorative glassware. Interestingly the business eventually returned to its roots and now manufactures pharmaceutical glassware, trading as Wheaton Industries.

Today’s wee piggy banks were presumably produced sometime during the 1960s, at the height of Wheaton’s popularity. With their hobnail pattern they’re a very attractive pair, but rather frustratingly the only way to get your savings out of the our pigs is to smash the glass, which seems a little heartbreaking! So I’m hoping that whoever buys today’s pigs them uses them as decorative items only – either that or they’re very handy with a pair of tweezers  – it would be slow and laborious, but I suppose you could always pull your coins or notes out through the slot?

Note: Our pigs do have some minor damage along the slots (see photos), but fortunately the damage isn’t very noticeable at all

Dimensions: Each pig measures approx. 8.5cm tall x 12.5cm long x 7.5wide

Please note that we’re away until the 16th December so there will unfortunately be a delay in the couriering of items
