Vintage German Spätzle Press

R220.00

You don’t know what Spätzle is? Well before buying this press I didn’t have a clue either! It seems that Spätzle (or Knöpfle, Spätzli, Spaetzle or Chnöpfli!) is a type of pasta made with fresh eggs that’s found in the cuisines of southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Slovenia. It’s generally a savoury meal, but can also be served sweet.

So you might ask why we would buy such a niche kitchen utensil? Well apparent the Spätzle press also makes for a mean potato ricer, which makes complete sense when you look at it! So if you’re not nuts for Spätzle, but are a fan of a creamy mash, then you’ll definitely be able to put our press to good use!

P.S. It seems Spätzle presses are sought after items – you can buy a version of today’s press for the bargain price of $149 (R2300) on Amazon! Also, after chatting to a friend, I need to point out that the hard plastic insert is removable, which apparently will make cleaning your press much easier!
