Vintage Framed Bird Prints (Each)

R390.00 R234.00

These striking bird prints are the work of French  artist, Jean-Théodore Descourtilz (1796-1855). Descourtilz was the son of botanist, and found his calling as a naturalist, painter and illustrator, specialising in ornithological art. In 1834 Descourtilz illustrated the book, Oiseaux brillans du Bresil, which included sixty hand-colored lithographed plates of birds of the Americas.

It’s likely that today’s prints are vintage reproductions from the book, dating to around the middle of the 20th century. Even new though, these prints are highly sought after, with heritage-prints.com selling reproductions of Descourtilz’s prints for an impressive €114 (R2200) each!

P.S. The prints are vintage and show minor signs of wear, but the frames are obviously contemporary and for the most part are in good condition

Dimensions: Each frame measures 55cm tall x 40cm wide x 4cm deep

NB: We’ve numbered the prints according to the order in which they appear
