Vintage Electric Clock

This is one of the more unusual clocks that we’ve had for sale on Mint – it was originally designed to plug into the wall, as well as into a lamp – you would then set the timer via the little metal teeth on the inside face of the clock, and at the chosen time your lamp would turn on! I suppose the idea was that in the cold winter months you could come home to your lounge lit by a cosy lamp? While the clock is keeping perfect time, the timer was more temperamental so we’ve removed the second cable that would have plugged into the lamp – we figured no one would really use that function these days, plus the two cables looked a bit messy. So now you have a a very handsome electric clock in excellent working order – I think it’s fabulous!

We have a Philips light alarm clock – the idea is that the light slowly turns on simulating the sun rising. Which is quite nice for winter months when the sun doesn’t rise until it’s late.

If the light came on suddenly, that would be a shocking way to wake up, but perhaps this was meant to be one of those alarm clocks that makes sure you get out of bed on time.
