Over the holidays we did some clearing out, and hidden at the back of our kitchen cupboards were these lovely English side plates and bowls that we just weren’t using. The bowls (which are seriously fabulous!) were produced by J&G Meakin, with the maker’s stamp dating them to 1958, which I think justifies the fact that the set is incomplete, with only five bowls instead of the usual six.
The side plates, which were also made in England and probably date to more or less the same period, are also showing their age. For the most part the plates are in pretty good nick, but the blue coloured plates are quite worn looking on the underside, with the cream earthenware being quite stained – not that it matters though, as you’re not likely to pick up your plate and have a squiz underneath, now are you?
Dimensions: Bowls – 16cm in diameter x 3cm deep; Side plates – 16.5cm in diameter
