I’ve been a bit pushed for time today so have’t be able to research the character that this resin figurine is modelled on, but I’m sure there’s a story there! From the brief bit of reading that I did do, it seems that these figurines were actually produced in Italy during the 1960s, so not not oriental at all really! At first I thought this chap was made from alabaster, but on closer inspection it looks like a type of resin. There are small areas which have discoloured over the years, but there’s no real damage – often these figurines chip over time, and given how tall this gentleman is, I’m surprise the same fate hasn’t befallen him!
A quirky figurine that would make an interesting addition to your bookshelf or display cabinet
