Given the name of my business it’s not surprising that I try to sell items that are in good nick, but there are a few exceptions to the rule, and mirrors are definitely on of them – it doesn’t matter how distressed a mirror is, if it has a nice shape to it, or if there’s something about the way that the mirror is mounted (or even the way the chain hangs), I’ll happily take it home with me! For starters I don’t think you can ever have enough mirrors, so you can’t always be too picky if you’re going for quantity, but I also happen to quite like the way that mirrors age – there’s just something about the way the sliver starts to lift and crumble that appeals to me! Obviously chips are less ideal, although because today’s mirror is so distressed, a few small chips here and there won’t really make any difference!
There’s really no hiding the condition of this mirror – not that I’d want to anyway. The wooden back is worn, the metal chain is corroded, and the glass itself has countless issues, but for all the wear & tear it’s still a very handsome piece of glass! I love the shape, I love the wear, and I love the fact that it’s still affordable – the prices of vintage mirrors these days can be a bit ridiculous!
