There’s no doubt that both of today’s apothecary jars are the real thing! In fact our brown jar is still sealed, with ammonium acetate crystals sitting inside it – how crazy is that! Fortunately for us ammonium acetate is non-volatile and highly soluble in water, so there’ll be no issue disposing of the contents of the jar should you wish to – you’ll just need to cut through the wax which is sealing the lid – easy peasy! The taller, clear jar was also definitely put to work in some scientist’s lab – when we found it was filled with some peculiar orange substance, which fortunately washed away very easily! It’s a decent size, so will make for a nice display piece, but you could also use it for serving water to your guests – it’s not so large that it would peculiar sitting on your dinner table.
A very attractive and fairly unusual pair of jars that should make some collector very happy indeed!
