Trench Art Vases (Each)

Growing up we had this tall, cylindrical brass vase that my mother always displayed Strelitzias from our garden in. It was only many years later that I discovered that the vase had at one point been an artillery shell of some description, and was a piece of what’s commonly known as ‘trench art’. So when I spotted today’s pair of matching vases they took me straight back to my childhood! They look very similar to my mother’s vase, albeit slightly shorter and more decorative. Also today’s vases look to be made of steel, and not being a weapons expert I’m not sure if you get shells in plain steel, or if they always come in brass? Regardless, that’s what I’ve called today’s pair because that’s exactly what they look like to me! And even if they’re not made from the remnants of discarded weaponry, they’re definitely handmade, and with that beaten decorative work have a similar folksy feel to them!

An unusual pair of vases, that I think will look really charming in the right home.

Dimensions: Each vase measures 18.5cm tall  x 6cm in diameter
