At first glance I wasn’t sure how old this toy china tea set was, but then I spotted the original price tag that read R2.50 – imagine being able to buy this delightful tea set for R2.50 (our inflation rate’s a little scary isn’t it?)! So I’m a fairly confident that we’re looking at a tea set, in its original packaging, that’s got a bit of age to it, probably dating to sometime around the late ’60s or early 1970s. It’s not the most finely produced bit of china, but then again it was made as a toy, and if I compare it to the plastic rubbish that’s out there today then this is something of a masterpiece! And it’s clear that whoever owned it (if it’s been used at all) looked after it remarkably well – there’s absolutely zero damage, or signs of wear.
A wonderful child’s toy, that would make an awesome Christmas present for some little girl (or boy!).
P.S. A smaller version of this tea set is for sale on eBay for R550
