I bought this lovely tall Ball jar from the same gentleman as the collection of shorter jars that we had for sale a few weeks back – can you just imagine what their pantry must have looked like when it was fully stocked with all these jars! It reminds me of my brother’s kitchen in Durban which had a great big walk-in cupboard where he stashed his wonderful collection of vintage glass jars. He was a pretty healthy (and adventurous!) cook, so they were filled with all manner of things – lentils, split peas, an array of exotic spices – it was quite a delight to behold! Personally I like to fill my jars with far more pedestrian foods, like cereals and nuts and raisons. They’re also great for marshmallows – the milk glass liners on the inside of the jars keeps them nice and fresh, and the pink and white marshmallow fluff looks great through the clear glass!
P.S. The logo dates this particular Ball jar to between 1933 and 1962
