Straw Boater Hat

R185.00

We really do sell everything on Mint, don’t we? I just couldn’t resist this vintage boater hat when I spotted it – my dad had one when we were kids, so it took me straight back to my childhood – and I was even more excited when I spotted the Durban maker’s label on the inside of the hat. How cool is that!

It was made by JL Normoyle, a milliner in Durban that seemed to specialise in military hats, so I’m not sure how it is they came to produce our boater hat? Perhaps it was for some special occasion? Regardless, it’s pretty cool! It does have some faint marks left by the glue residue, and it sadly is missing its bow that would have hidden the join in the ribbon, but otherwise it’s fairly neat.

I’ve only managed to find one other Normoyle boater hat for sale (which is selling for a rather impressive £95/R2100!), and the seller dates their hat to the 1930s, so perhaps our hat was made around a similar time, or maybe a few years later, but it definitely has a bit of age to it!

A fun bit of dress up that would also be great as a display item.

Dimensions: Our hat appears to be a size 57 (which apparently means a 57cm internal diameter)

Unfortunately this item is too large for one of our courier packets, so will need to be boxed. To save on shipping costs, we’re happy to combine other items at no additional courier fee

Please note that there will be a delay in couriering this item due to the current government restrictions
