It might be a little crazy, but this Swedish casserole dish is just on the right side of crazy for me! Designed by Berit Ternell for Upsala Ekeby, an educated guess is that this dish dates to around the 1960s – Ternell worked as an intern for Upsala Ekeby in 1950, and went on to have a celebrated career, including designing for TG Green Pottery and Rörstrand. In 1957 she returned to the Upsala Ekeby group, where she worked until 1971 – so the dish should have been designed somewhere in between those years. But even without the history lesson it would have been a sensible guess – that crazy pattern just shouts 1960s doesn’t it?
A great little dish from a very respected mid-century designer.
