These old sports trophies have become pretty hard to come by, especially the larger ones – in fact they’re so popular (hence their scarcity) that people have started replicating them – Sutherlands sells mock trophies as decor items, starting at R795! You can still find original versions of the really wee ones, but they tend to be not as well made, and obviously are not nearly as impressive! Not that the ones we have for sale today are massive, but they’re definitely large enough to plant a small succulent or cactus in. None of them are particularly old either – I think the oldest trophy (the one with all of the badges on its base) dates to the 1960s, but the other two are from the ’80s, although they do have some nice detail and are much better quality than the plasticky rubbish that pass for trophies today!
NB: All of the trophies have come off their bases, so need to be glued back on – I was going to ask Justin to glue them when it occurred to me that some people might prefer them without the plastic bases (see the second photo to get an idea of what they look like sans bases). Whoever buys the trophies just needs to let us know whether they want them in two parts, or glued back together….
