Silver Plated Christening Set

R200.00

I’m not normally tempted by these vintage christening sets, but I was so taken by the beautiful design of this silver plated baby feeding spoon and pusher – it’s so stylish, it almost looks like jewellery! I love the handles, which fit onto your finger so perfectly – this is quite an impressive ergonomic design, given the age of the set

I was always quite horrified at the idea of these food ‘pushers’ as I thought that they were meant for shovelling food into a child’s mouth – thankfully though, they’re not! They apparently date to Victorian times when it was considered seriously impolite to touch food with your hands, even for a child. So when children were learning to use forks and spoons, they were given these ‘pushers’ to help them encourage their food onto said utensils – bizarre yes, but far nicer an idea than forcing food into your baby’s mouth!

P.S. Just an idea – if you’re giving this set as a gift to someone, you could possibly recover the box? The inside of the box is in great condition, as is are the contents, but obviously the outside of the box leaves a lot to be desired!

Dimensions: Spoon – 7.5cm long x 4.5cm wide; Pusher – 5.5cm long x 3.5cm wide
