This a proper old-school carving set, with the blades made in Sheffield, an area in the north of England famous for its silverware and flatware. It’s a classic design, with a nice cuff and what look to be Bakelite handles. The fork also has an unusual lever on the back of it. Some people believe it to be a finger guard, while others seem to think it works as a rest for your fork, ensuring no mess gets on granny’s lace tablecloth- the jury seems to be out! From what I’ve read though, it doesn’t seem to be the most practical of additions, so I’d probably just enjoy it for what it is – a really lovely carving set in near perfect nick – from the looks of it, it’s never been used!
