I’ve recently developed a bit of a passion for headboards! The first headboard that I bought was for our new home, and I suppose buying one for myself opened me up to the whole idea of them. On the one hand they’re very practical in that you don’t have to buy separate bedside pedestals, which can work out quite pricey, but on the other hand they can be a bit of a mission! Most of the retro headboards were designed for very low beds, which means that you either have to hide the actual headboard part, or swap your bed out for one that’s lower, which is what we did. Fortunately though the pedestals for this headboard stand at 57.5cm tall, which I don’t think is that low compared to most beds? So we hit a bit of a luck with this one! On the downside though, it’s made from veneered wood, and through restoring it some of the veneer has worn through (please have a look at all of the photos). Justin’s also done a bit of repair job on the one leg, which you’ll notice if you remove the left hand drawer and look at the carcass, but with the drawer in you can’t notice the damage at all.
A very handsome piece that will add a bit of retro style to your bedroom or guest suite.
NB: Because the design’s a bit rickety (the pedestals balance on one leg) I’m not happy to courier it – only buyers from Jozi need apply (sorry!).
