These are probably the most expensive armchairs that we’ve ever had for sale on Mint, but rather bizarrely I’m barely making a penny from them! I bought them believing that I could sell them on as is (and as such paid a very high price) – the previous owner insisted that the chairs were near immaculate, with their original blue velvet upholstery, and stupidly I didn’t bother to unpack them to check (they had been shipped from France and were still wrapped). Unfortunately I think the seller and I had very different views as to what ‘mint condition’ meant (I really don’t think that he was trying to con me), and unfortunately when I unwrapped the chairs the fabric was in a bit of sorry state, as was the wood. But they’re such fabulous chairs – the first retro wingback armchairs I’ve ever seen (no twirly ball and claw feet in sight!) – that I just had to see the project through, even if there wasn’t really any profit to be made. And I’m really glad I did – I think they turned out beautifully!
So while they’re not the cheapest chairs you’re going to find, they’re definitely more unusual (and better quality!) than your run of the mill retro armchairs, and given how another retro dealer reacted when he saw the chairs, I’m pretty sure I was right to snap these up!
NB: The fabric that we’ve used for these chairs has a blue fleck in it – see photos for detail
Dimensions: Each chair measures 87cm tall x 61cm wide x 61cm deep
