We don’t come across Israeli ceramics very often, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the name Lapid before, but I’m so glad I know about them now – shoo-wee these guys produced some incredible pieces!

Lapid first opened their doors in Tel Aviv in 1944, originally producing tiles and sanitary wares. They shortly changed direction though and started making art pottery from 1949 onwards. If you google the name “Lapid” you’ll see some of their amazing designs – they really are quite something! Obviously yhey also made cookware, but with a difference – all of their pieces were hand decorated, with the pottery being lead free – apparently they were the the only commercial pottery house in Israel able to do this.

Lapid eventually closed their doors in 1990. Going on the style of today’s dishes I’d guess that they date to about twenty years before then – around the early 1970s. You can see that they’ve been well used when you look at the undersides, but other than that, this pair are in excellent nick!

A really stylish and practical duo that I’m certain you’ll get plenty of use out of!

Dimensions: Each dish measures 34.5cm long x 24.5cm wide x 4cm deep

Please note that we’re away until the 16th December so there will unfortunately be a delay in the couriering of items
