I can’t tell you how much I love this retro room divider!! It’s taken us ages to restore, but I think it was worth the blood, sweat & tears – hopefully you do too! It actually wasn’t in too bad a nick when I bought it (a few chips in the veneer, some scratches to the solid wood, and a broken piece of glass), but the original varnish was ridiculously hard to remove, and veneer isn’t that easy to work with. We’ve painted the new piece of glass a deep green, and I think it works really well. It sadly doesn’t have the original finger groove, so it’s a bit difficult to open, but on the plus side the colour is nice and solid – the paintwork on the original pieces of glass is quite scratched, but because the colours are so bold you don’t notice the wear too much, and once you’ve got the shelves filled I’m sure it’ll be even less noticeable.
A stupidly cool piece of furniture that not only looks great, but is super versatile – use it to separate spaces in a open plan living area, or push it up against a wall and use it as a plain bookshelf, but one that you can swivel every few months or so when you feel like a different colour scheme!
Note: The rectangular box is veneer, but the rest of the piece is solid wood. This room divider is for sale in Joburg only.
