Retro John Tabraham Desk

This has to be one of the coolest desks I’ve ever come across! Before moving to Johannesburg I’d never come across the name John Tabraham, but in a matter of a few months I’ve become a massive fan – this South African furniture designer produced some very sleek designs! There are a number of things that I love about this desk, but the thing that first attracted me to it was how narrow it is – older wooden desks tend to be quite bulky, which were fine back in the day when we had massive computers that needed the space, but with most people working on laptops these days the skinniness of this desk makes it an ideal piece for a contemporary setting. And then you have that beautiful floating top, with the flush drawers that are almost hidden from sight, and the double drawers on the bottom section – the left hand side has two standard sized drawers, but on the right a double volume drawer is disguised as two separate drawers. This really is a well thought out piece of furniture! And if you don’t have a need for a desk, it would also make a great dressing table – add a long, narrow mirror on the wall above it, and hey presto, you have one times uber sleek dressing table!

Note: We’ve sanded and varnished the wood, and on the whole it’s in good condition, but the insides of two of the drawers are a bit rough, and there’s a small piece of veneer missing on the one edge (barely noticeable). Also, please note, this desk is only for sale in Joburg.
