Retro German Bud Vase

R145.00 R87.00

Without knowing anything about the design, I’ve always wanted one of these retro wheel bud vases – I just really liked the idea of the disc shape for the vase – it’s so different to your traditional elongated bud vase, and from my perspective, much more interesting! Having done a bit of research I can now tell you that it’s a German piece of glass designed by Heiner Düsterhaus (a glass artist who’s still producing incredible work today) for Walther Glass, who are also still operating as a glassworks. Most people date the design, which is referred to as a ‘solifleur’ stem vase to sometime between the 1960s and ’70s – no one seems to know the exact date, but you’re looking at a piece of glass in the region of fifty years old – and doesn’t it still look so modern? I tried it out with a beautiful buttercup yellow dietes flower from our garden, and as striking as it is as a piece of glass, I was pleased to see how beautiful it looked functioning as a vase!

P.S. These vases tend to sell for around $30 (approx. R400)
