I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how in the process of buying a house in Joburg I managed to acquire a whole lot of furniture—each time we put an offer in on a house, I started buying furniture to kit it out (I kid you not, I am that crazy!), and then when we didn’t get the house there were tears and drama as I told Justin how I had just bought that great table/chair/lamp for the lounge/bedroom/study! Much sadness. And that’s how I landed up with this great retro copper floor lamp! I think I bought it for the very first house that we made an offer on, but of course I’ve since bought another floor lamp for the house that we finally landed up buying, and house number one is a distant memory! I’ve been holding onto the lamp in the hope of finding the right shade for it, but I think in truth whoever buys it needs to have a shade made for it. I’ve photographed it with a shade that I thought would be right for it (just to give you an idea), but it was way too small (and it’s a pretty large lampshade!).
I know these copper lamps are a bit too crazy for some people, but I think this is a really nice example, just the right amount of over-the-top to make it cool! Plus it’s in better nick than a lot of these lamps are. The metal’s a bit corroded in places, but the base doesn’t appear to have any serious damage.
NB: Unfortunately this lamp is for sale in Joburg only. Also note that it is being sold without a lampshade.
