This has to be one of the coolest retro vases I’ve ever been lucky to come across! I’ve called it a vase, but really it’s in the shape of a jug, but the finish (which looks almost like chalkware?) doesn’t really seem suited to food, but perhaps I’m being paranoid? I might be wrong, but I think the people that I bought it from said that it had been a wedding gift (and if I remember correctly, one that they were never that fond of!), which might explain why it still has its original Brentleigh foil sticker plastered onto the side. Because it’s never been used much it’s condition is pretty reasonable (these ‘painted’ vases are normally quite badly damaged), but there are a few areas where the painted has chipped slightly, and most noticeably a patch where the black paint is almost smudged. But because the pattern is so vibrant (I love the bold colours and the geometric designs!), you don’t really notice the wear too much.
A very striking bit of mid-century English design that will make a serious statement wherever you choose to display it.
