I bought this glass snack plate and ceramic ashtray because I loved the way the colours contrasted (they were sitting side by side when I spotted them). Obviously being made of different materials they’re not from the same manufacturer, but they could be from the same region – the ashtray has an original maker’s sticker on the base, so we know it’s Italian, and I think the glass could just as easily be Italian. The orange snack dish has a bit of wear – scratches to the paint on the underside of the dish are showing through (not too visible in the photos), but the damage isn’t terrible and a few celery sticks will easily cover the wear. The ashtray, which was produced sometime between 1946 and 1949 (that’s when Ernestine Ceramics – Ceramica D’Arte closed their doors), also has some minor damage, but fortunately it’s n0t very noticeable at all. Ceramica D’Arte pottery can fetch some fairly decent prices – a coffee set in the same style as this ashtray is currently for sale on eBay for a whopping €630! Fortunately our ashtray’s a bit cheaper than that, but just as special!
Dimensions: Blue ceramic ashtray – 6cm tall x 11.5cm in diameter; Orange glass snack plate – 34.5cm long x 21cm wide
