I’ve always wondered about these apple ice buckets – you get loads of different versions, some better quality than others, with these plastic models definitely being of the cheap and cheerful variety! The question I’ve asked myself is where they were made?It turns out that they’re actually South African, or at least were distributed in SA – Riviera Foods, a company that produced a lot of plastic kitchenware that you would recognise from your childhood, are the company responsible for selling these delightful ice buckets, which according to the old box they came in, could also be used for serving ice cream and chocolate – seriously there was a picture of the ice bucket filled with chocolate on the side of the box (which sadly was too worn to keep)! So there you have it – a multi-functional big red apple! They may be very basic, but they really are pretty fantastic!
Note: The leaves that function as handles aren’t super reliable and are prone to becoming dislodged when you yank them, but fortunately they’re pretty easy to stick back in….
