Original Anglepoise Lamp

R600.00

The now famous Anglepoise lamp has its origins in a mechanics workshop. It came about in 1932 when vehicle suspension engineer, George Carwardine, invented a spring, crank and lever mechanism that could be positioned with the lightest of touch, yet maintain its position once released – genius!

Today’s original Anglepoise is the oldest version we’ve ever sold, and dates to 1933. It was the first model to be produced after the original prototype, and would originally have been sold with a cast iron base, which unfortunately someone has adapted at some point so that it can be attached instead to the side of a table. Because of its age the paintwork is a bit tired looking, but importantly the springs still work beautifully – you can literally change the angle of the lamp with the slightest flick of your hand – pretty marvelous really!
