OMI/Koch & Lowy Bedside Lamps (Each)

R380.00

These are the first (and possibly the best!) of the items that I hauled back from Amsterdam over Christmas. I hope you can see why I was so determined to buy them, even though it meant having to sit on my suitcase to get it to close! They were made by American lighting company, OMI, before they merged with Koch & Lowy in the 1960s, which means that they’re in the region of fifty years old. OMI/Koch & Lowy lights are super collectible, especially when sold in pairs. Unfortunately I can’t find this exact pair (because they’re so darn special!), but generally speaking a pair of their lamps will go for around $1000, with some of the more unique pieces selling for as much as $1600 – that’s more Rands I dare to say out loud! There’s some minor wear to the aluminium tubes, and the green felt (presumably added by someone after the fact) is a bit worn, but for their age they’re in excellent condition! I love the detail on these lamps – the black ring that serves no purpose (as far as I can tell), other than to look cool; the beauty of the base of the lamps where they clamp onto your desk or bedside table (I love that U shape!), and the lollipop-shaped disc that you use to turn the screw to secure your lamps – just fantastic design!

P.S. I’ve left the original plugs on in case there are any purists out there, but I’m happy to change the plugs if the lucky fish who buys them wants me to…..

Dimensions: Each lamp measures approx. 24cm tall (from clamp to shade); Shade measures 13cm long x 8cm in diameter
