A wonderful friend of mine recently gave me a demijohn that his sister gave to him for his 21st birthday (he must be about 65 now). He’s treasured it for years, taking it with him wherever he’s moved in the world, and now that he’s downsizing wanted it to go to someone who would love it just as much! When his sister gave it to him all those years ago he painstakingly drilled a hole in the base (it took him three days!) so that he could use it as a lamp. The demijohn that we have for sale today is the one that we had in our house before sweet Juan gave us his. It’s very similar (complete with drilled hole should you want to convert it into a lamp – they really do make for beautiful lamps!), it’s just minus the wonderful story and touching sentiment (I will forever treasure my demijohn from Juan). It has a few scratches and imperfections in the glass, plus a small chip along the mouth where the old light fitting used to go, but these are such wonderfully imposing jars that you don’t really notice a bit if wear!
Hopefully whoever buys it will love it and care for it as well as Juan did his, and in forty or so years time there’ll be another story to tell about the tale of the demijohn.
