Justin has quite an impressive collection of espresso cups sitting on top of his coffee machine, and when I asked him which were his favourite the other day, he pointed to his set of Midwinter cups (the ones just like these!). The man has such good taste!
Stylecraft was first introduced by Midwinter in 1953, and I can’t imagine that this Spring Willow pattern dates to too much later than that. We have two sets of Spring Willow for sale today – the first set is complete, with all six coffee cups and saucers, as well as the matching coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl.
The second set comprises just four cups (only three saucers), a sugar bowl and milk jug with a handle that’s been chipped. I should probably have tossed the milk jug, but years ago I had a floating shelf in my kitchen filled with vintage porcelain, and I always think about that when I’m tempted to throw something away – sometimes it’s nice to keep a damaged piece, if only for appearances!
A wonderful bit of ’50s design from one of England’s most famous names in vintage pottery.
