Midwinter Breakfast Plates & Teacups (Set)

R390.00 R234.00

These fantastic ‘Cuban Fantasy’ breakfast sets were designed by Jessie Tait in 1957 for Midwinter. Midwinter were definitely trend setters in their day – at one point Terence Conran was also designing for Midwinter, who were considered to be Britain’s leading contemporary tableware designers in the 1950s. Aside from the great pattern, the fantastic retro shape of the plates (which are also referred to as ‘TV’ plates) and the fact that the tea cups fit so perfectly into their ‘cup-holders’ make this set a definite design classic!

P.S. This design is pretty collectible – a single cup and plate are currently for sale on Etsy for $38 (R495) – that’s more than what we’re charging for the whole set! Also please note that while the plates are in near perfect condition, the cups are showing some signs of age, with one cup in particular quite badly stained (see photos)

Dimensions: Cups: 7cm high x 7cm at their widest; Plates: 24cm long x 19cm at their widest
