Mid-Century Espresso Cups

R160.00 R96.00

It’s such pity that this set is incomplete, because these are some seriously cool espresso cups!! I loved the shape when I first spotted them, and was delighted when I looked underneath and saw a 1959 copyright mark – it’s such a contemporary looking design that it could so easily be modern, so to have confirmation that the cups and saucers are in fact mid-century was great! The unusually shaped cups, which formed part of the Forma series, were conceptualised by LaGardo Tackett (1911 – 1984) for the Japanese company, Schmid Kreglinger. Schmid specialised in porcelain dinnerware made for the European and American markets, with their designs being particularly popular in the 1960s, which ties in perfectly with the date of today’s set.

P.S. An interesting fact – LaGardo Tackett’s father was a grocer, and supposedly his unusual name was taken from the label of a tomato can at his father’s store!

Dimensions: Cups – 10cm tall x 3.5cm in diameter; Saucers – 8.5cm in diameter
