‘L’Inconnue de la Seine’ Porcelain Mask

R380.00

There’s something so eerily beautiful about the famous ‘L’Inconnue de la Seine‘ (“unknown woman of the Seine”), isn’t there? Her expression is often likened to that of the Mona Lisa – just a hint of a smile….

There exist a number of variations, but this particular mask was modeled by Arthur Möller and made by W Goebel in Oeslau-Rödental Germany sometime after 1935. For her years, our mask is in remarkably good condition, with barely a mark to found! I know she’s not for everyone – there’s something quite haunting about her – but there’s also something very serene, and very beautiful about our lass.
