I don’t think we’ve ever sold such a finely detailed tray on Mint before? In fact I don’t know if I ever come across a ‘ball and claw’ piece where both the front and back of the talons are so detailed – it’s pretty impressive! On the downside though someone’s polished the hell out of this tray, revealing the copper underneath the silver plating, but to be honest that never really bothers me too much – I quite like the colour of the copper showing through. I also like the fact that its engraved. I know for some people that would be an issue, but I like that it dates the piece (although the tray could well have been made before 1967) and I like that it tells a bit of a story. One of the favourite things I own is a tray that was given to my grandfather as a thank you gift – it’s engraved with the signatures of the club members who gave it to him, and that’s why I love it so much! I use it as a pot plant stand (not sure Gramps would have approved!), which is perhaps one of the things you could use this large tray for? Wouldn’t it look fabulous displaying a collection of air plants or flowering orchids (which I suppose are also air plants?). Of course it would work just as well as a traditional tea tray, or better yet – a tray for displaying your glasses or bottles of whiskey on top of your drink’s trolley! Use it for whatever you want – I’m pretty sure it’s going to look amazing wherever it lands up!
