Large Retro Wall Clock

I’m not quite sure what to make of this (completely fabulous!) industrial wall clock? The story is a bit confusing with links to Spain, Germany and France – basically I’m not really sure who to attribute our clock to! The clock mechanism where the battery sits was made by Junghans, the largest watch and clock manufacturer in Germany, but on the clock face are the letters “LIC. ATO”, with ‘lic’ standing for ‘license’ and ATO being the trading name of French clockmakers, Hatot Industriel et Artiste Bijoutier. Seemingly when Hatot filed their first patents in 1953, they didn’t have the funds for a worldwide patent, so instead they granted licences to several of the principal horological manufacturers across the globe, including Junghans. However how the clock came to be made in Spain is another question altogether, and one that I think we should leave alone for now!

At the end of the day this is very handsome (albeit slightly beaten) wall clock that keeps perfect time. The mount at the back of the clock moves pretty easily, so before you hang it you need to make sure that the hands are sitting straight, but that’s relatively easy to do, and otherwise what you have is a very attractive retro wall clock in excellent working order – not something you come across every day!
