Kartell Ice Bucket

I think like most people I’m a massive admirer of the Kartell brand, but again like most people I can’t really afford anything in their shops! So I have to keep my eyes peeled for any retro Kartell items out there, which to be honest, I sometimes prefer to the contemporary designs! I’ve always had a soft spot for this Kartell ice bucket (model 4624) by Giotto Stoppino (1926-2011). It was designed in the very early ’70s and is something of a design classic with its built-in ice tongs that tuck neatly away in the lid – so clever! I’ve had a few of these ice buckets for sale over the years, but I think that this is the first red version I’ve found. And it seems that it’s not just my bad luck – the red is more unusual, and thus more collectible – there’s a boxed version (sans tongs) that’s currently for sale on Etsy for a whopping $90 – with our sad exchange rathe that’s a whopping R1300!
