Japanese Coffee Set

R340.00

This Japanese coffee set has a bit of a sad tale to it: I spotted it for sale a month or two back, but it was priced way out of my league, but I’m nothing if not tenacious, and over time I wore the sellers down to a point where I’d hopefully be able to turn a profit, but in the time that had passed someone had managed to damage the spout of the coffee pot – so, so sad! We’ve touched it up with a bit of varnish so it’s hygienic and the damage shouldn’t worsen, but it’s still there. It seemed a shame to throw it away though, when other than the tiny chip, it’s immaculate, as is the rest of this super cool Mikasa (you’ve got to love that name!) Arrow Stone coffee set. The colour is referred to as ‘Navajo Blue’, and the glaze has that classic ’70s speckle to it, although it’s possible that it’s a bit earlier. Obvioulsy the damage effects the price, but it’s still a very handsome set – I particularly like the way that the cups sit ‘into’ the saucers (there’s a little well moulded out for them) – and even if the coffee pot’s an issue for you, I think the money’s well worth it for the rest of the set – the coffee pot alone is for sale online for $45, with a green version of the cups and saucers selling for nearly $60!

Dimensions: Coffee pot – 28cm tall x 11cm in diameter; Milk jug – 12cm tall x 7cm in diameter; Sugar bowl – 11cm tall x 9.5cm in diameter; Cups – 9cm tall x 7.5cm in diameter; Saucers – 16.5cm in diameter
