Gouda Serving Bowl

R200.00 R120.00

This is the first piece of Gouda pottery that I’ve ever bought, so I’m afraid my knowledge of this Dutch pottery is very limited – to say the least! Looking at the hand painted stamp on the base I think this bowl was most likely made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH), which was in operation in the town of Gouda from 1897 until 1964. The picture looks like the PZH logo, commonly known as the ‘little house’, which represents the Gate of Lazarus, the impressive stone doorway which now forms the entrance to the Museum Gouda. Sadly the bowl does have a hairline crack, but fortunately it’s not very noticeable – what you notice instead are those beautifully illustrated ochre flowers, and that wonderful blue glaze that lines the inside of the bowl – a true work of art!

Dimensions: 20.5cm in diameter x 10cm deep
