Gouda Coffee Pot & Milk Jug (Set)

R200.00

I was a little heart broken when I discovered that today’s retro coffee set was incomplete – for a moment I thought everything was there, but then realised that the sugar bowl was sadly missing its lid. Luckily though the surviving coffee pot and milk jug are in mint condition, which is impressive given that they date all the way back to 1956!

They were designed by Floris Meydam (1919 – 2011 ), a Dutch industrial designer who specialised in glassware and ceramics, and were manufactured by Kunstaardewerkfabriek Regina*, a ceramics factory located in the town of Gouda, an area famous for its pottery, and looking at the beautiful deep olive matte glaze, and striking design of today’s set, it’s easy to see why!

* An interesting aside: Kunstaardewerkfabriek Regina was founded in 1898, the year of Queen Wilhelmina’s coronation. The name Regina is Latin for ‘queen’

Dimensions: Coffee pot – 22.5cm tall x 12cm in diameter; Milk jug – 8cm tall x 7 cm in diameter
